Understanding Women: A Blogger Provided Service Announcement
Continuing the fine tradition of education that Blogger consistently tries to provide through this site, the following information is provided to you from The Wall Street Journal's Best of the Web:
Guys, if the woman in your life complains that you don't listen
to her, check out this report from Netscape Men's:
When men and women speak, the human brain processes the
sounds of those voices differently, Britain's Mirror and Agence France Presse report of a new study from the U.K.'s University of Sheffield. While most of us actually hear female voices more clearly, men's
brains hear women's voices first as music. But it's not music. It's someone giving them a honey-do list. So the brain goes into overdrive trying to analyze what is being said.Bottom line: Men have to work harder deciphering what women are
saying because they use the auditory part of the brain that processes music, not human voices. Men's brains are not designed to listen to women's voices."Of course I wasn't listening to you, sweetheart. Your voice is
music to my ears." It's so crazy, it just might work.
This man really isn't hearing a word she is saying and rightfully so. Because he was made that way!Blogger would like to point out that as a bachelor, he can come home and read the newspaper with the music of his choosing on in the background. He can hit the "pause button." He can fast forward. He can skip to the next song. He can hit the mute. He can completely turn the music off.
Married Blogger readers, try that on your music. Ha!

Perhaps we like our music and wouldn't want to do those things. You know, of course, that posts like these are just going to come back to bite you in the butt someday. I think Amy is saving them to blackmail you someday.
So do we have equal footing with the printed word?
So sad, trying desperately to cling to absurd reasons to remain a bachlor. We will find you a woman; don't worry Mark.
Kevin. Yes, I suspect Amy has a lot of blackmail material to work with. The great question is what will she be blackmailing me to do?
Emily. When it comes to men and women's issues, women often have better footing than men because we are standing on the slippery slope. Women can criticize men freely, but the reverse is definitely not true. Hence, the current advertising trend of the long suffering women putting up with her somewhat stupid man.
But to answer your question, yes, for the most part women are much more understandable by music loving men in print. There's exceptions to this rule too. However, women in print have a tendency to do quite well. Peggy Noonan in my mind has a unique gift of communication that exceeds that of her male peers. She could be my communication director anytime.
I should also point out that music has advantages over the plain spoken word. Yes, there can be disadvantages, but everything depends on the situation.
Stacie. I'm glad to know that you've joined the vast marriage rocks conspiracy to find me a woman. You have fun with that!
